Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Staffing
In 2022 we will welcome three trainees to our school. Zoe Richie, Layla Monk and Kayne Brereton will join our staff for their Gap Year having completed their VCE this year. Layla and Kayne are past pupils of St Joseph’s and still have siblings here. These three young staff members will support all of our programs, in particular the Arts, PE and our Foundation classes. We are looking forward to welcoming them to St Joseph's and having them share their skills and enthusiasm with our students.
Assembly
Parents, carers and visitors are welcome to attend our final assembly on Tuesday 14th December at 12:00 noon. This is an important event for our school community where we are able to celebrate our year together, farewell our graduating students, farewell our staff who are moving on and thank all those who have contributed so generously to the life of the school this year. Vaccination status will be checked on arrival.
Year Six Graduation Mass
This Thursday evening our Year Six students will celebrate their graduation with mass and a further celebration at The Flying Horse. We congratulate all of these children as they move from primary school into the challenges and opportunities of secondary school. We look forward to watching their progress as their gifts, talents and interests take them on their many and varied pathways. Wherever they go in this world, we are confident that their presence will be positive.
Regards,
Matthew O'Brien, Principal

During week 4 of Term 3, 63 children from Year 3 - 6 sat the Australian Mathematics Competition. Several hundreds of thousands of students entered the 2021 competition, one of the world’s great competitions.
They have all achieved amazing results considering that we had only been back at school for 7 days because of a lockdown (I’m not even going to guess what number that was!). Then, this was the week that we found out Thursday lunchtime that we were going back into lockdown, only to be back at school on the following Tuesday! Doesn’t that seem like a lifetime ago!!
The children had to answer 30 questions covering the areas of Number, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Problem Solving and Statistics and Probability.
It is all done online, with the children having access to a scribble page and that is it.
Congratulations to Jack Kitto for receiving the best results in the school and he receives an additional certificate.
Below is a list of the top students in each year level:
Top Students
Year 3 - Billy Main, Mackenzie Marshall and Oscar Saywell.
Year 4 - Sam Collins, Brody Dubyna and Jack Kitto.
Year 5 - Manan Agrawal, Sienna Byron, Jack Gibson, Jameson Nelson and James Wearne.
Year 6 - Lachlan Gome, Alexei Khaidurov and Michael Lougheed.
We are very proud of our mathematicians and we hope that they feel proud of their results. It’s a great opportunity to give something a go and push ourselves to do the best we can. Well done everyone.
Last week the year 5 students journeyed down to the Hopkins River as part of their water safety and awareness program. The weather was perfect for participating in these on water events and the children participated with great enthusiasm.
They also journeyed to Lake Pertobe mini golf as part of our end of year celebrations. The children managed to catch and release 63 fish on day 1 and 83 fish on day 2. A big thanks to all the helpers and Daiwa Australia for donating over $500 worth of prizes to some lucky students.
We competed in the Victorian titles for BMX on Sunday in Shepparton. There were approximately 25 participants in each age category all hoping to be number 1.
There were 18 participants from Warrnambool and 4 from St Joseph’s. At the end of the day, Will Rogers came 2nd, Jackson Rogers came 7th, Xavier Keilar came 4th and Milla Rentsch came 1st for their individual age categories.

YOUNG VINNIES SUPPORT FOOD SHARE
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
The Young Vinnies are hoping to make a Christmas donation of non perishable food to Food Share. We are asking if children could bring in some non perishable food (eg tinned soup, rice, biscuits, etc).
The food can be left at the front office and will be taken to Food Share during the last week of school.

It is lovely that children at times choose to give Christmas cards to their friends at Christmas time.
We encourage students to NOT include chocolates or candy canes with their cards in line with this sharing of food guidelines.
Volunteers Needed
We rely on our volunteers and are also in need of more parents to assist. Canteen can only run 5 days a week if we have sufficient volunteers. Can you help?
Training is arranged by our Canteen Co-ordinator Tanya Hughes. Please consider volunteering, even if only once per term, all help most appreciated.
