Devices at St. Joseph's

Technologies ensure all students benefit from learning about and working with the many forms of technology tools available.  At St Joseph’s Primary School the tools support creativity, investigation, engagement and learning.

Foundation

Our Foundation students have access to sets of iPads that are used to complement learning and teaching in the classroom. They are used to engage students in key curriculum areas such as English and Mathematics.

Years 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2 students have access to sets of iPads and laptops. Much like the Foundation area these devices are used to engage students in key curriculum areas such as English and Mathematics. Year 1 and 2 students also access our school technology lab where they will access a class set of laptops to further develop their technology skills.

Year 3

Year 3 students have class sets of laptops that allow for 2 to 1 interaction. These laptops are used as a teaching and learning tool to further engage and educate our students in a contemporary way. Year 3 students also access our school technology lab where they will access a class set of laptops to further develop their technology skills.

Years 4, 5 and 6

Years 4, 5 and 6 have a one-to-one Chromebook program. This program primarliy utilises Google Apps for Education (GAFE). Students engage daily with all areas of the curriculum via their Chromebook, enabling them to develop not only the necessary skills for technology, but, developing skills in all other areas of the curriculum.

Purchasing a Chromebook

At the beginning of Year 4, families are required to purchase a Chromebook for their child, payment of the Chromebook is included in the school fees and payments are distributed across Years 4, 5 and 6. At the completion of Year 6 the Chromebook is yours to keep. Other options for obtaining a Chromebook include secondhand purchases and utlising a device already purchased for a sibling.

Mobile Phones/iPads or Laptops

As part of the DOBCEL Digital Technology Policy students that bring a device such as a mobile phone, iPad or laptop these items are required to be signed in by the student at the school office each morning and signed out and collected at the end of the day.
