Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Cup Day Prayer
Creator God, as we join together to celebrate your creation. together help us to see you.
In the beauty of the horses, we see YOUR HAND, in the guiding of the jockeys, we sense YOUR PATH, and in the TRUST of the trainers, let us REST IN YOU.
Guide us today and always as we run our race; keep us safe, true and straight.
Amen
I have been touched by the recent tragedies involving vehicles leaving the road. Our local loss at Tower Hill and the school accident in Melbourne. Our thoughts go out to all involved particularly the school community of Auburn South Primary School.
It is probably unnecessary (but I will anyway) to put out a reminder to ensure that everyone is taking their time and following our daily pick up and drop off procedures.
Vale Colin McKenna
The St Joseph’s School community extend our condolences with the McKenna family on the passing of Colin. The McKenna family are very generous in their yearly donations to our school (and those in the Warrnambool area).
Zooper Dooper Tuesday
The PSA along with the Year 6 Leaders will begin selling Zooper Doopers on Tuesdays for the remainder of the term. Zooper Doopers will cost $1 and all monies will go towards our new playground. Strictly cash only and correct money (no change given).

It was a pleasure to speak with the St Joseph’s Primary School Years 4-6 students on Monday about how to stay safe online. We discussed simple strategies that the students could use to help keep themselves, friends and family members cyber safe.
It was great to hear from the students all the ways they know to safeguard themselves when playing games online or when on social media sites.
- Block unwanted players/comments
- Tell a trusted adult when they have an issue
- Only play/connect with people they know
- Be role models online
- Don’t share or store inappropriate images online
- Online bullying is against the law
The esafety commission has some amazing information for every age group (adults included!), we encourage everyone to have a look with their young person.
Kids Help Line, another great place for young people to utilise when they want to communicate.

They will also run a parent and student night at 6pm on Tuesday 5th November.
Please note that this session is designed for both parents and students and is designed to open up conversations that can continue at home. I strongly encourage all parents of students from Year 4 and beyond to attend this important session.
Please note that families will need to register their attendance at the Tuesday evening session.
New members needed for 2023-2024
We encourage all parents to consider joining the School Advisory Council in 2025 and 2026.
This group provides an opportunity to be involved in the life of your child’s school through engagement in school policies, finances, teaching and learning and Catholic School Culture. If you are curious we would love to talk to you about the role.
The School Advisory Council meets once per term, usually in week 5.
Our current Chairperson is Mrs Mel Happ, our Deputy Chairperson is Mr Joel Saywell. They are joined by Mrs Jessica McCarthy, Mrs Claire Nailon, Mrs Tracey Harris, Mrs Andrea Welsh and Liz Noonan is currently our staff representative. Also included is Mr Matthew O’Brien (Principal) and Mrs Cathy Duynhoven (Business Manager).
At the end of this school year 2 of these members will finish their tenure of 4 years and we are seeking expressions of interest from our parent community to fill these vacancies to commence in 2025.
If you are interested in joining the School Advisory Council please email Cathy Duynhoven on cduyn@sjwarrnambool.catholic.edu.au stating your current role and interests, and what you believe you could bring to this committee. If you have any questions and would like to discuss this first you may call either Cathy or Matthew O’Brien for an informal chat first.
As we prepare for the end of year we invite our volunteers that have assisted over 2024 to Drinks and Nibbles. The School Advisory Council, PSA members, Canteen volunteers, Classroom Coordinators and anyone that has assisted volunteering in our school community over the year.
Volunteers include committee attendees, classroom and swimming helpers, excursion and sporting volunteers, canteen volunteers, Mothers Day stall and Fathers Day breakfast volunteers, disco committee and helpers on the night, and anyone else who has volunteered their time at our school this year.
FOUNDATION DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH
Digital Technology use and associated psychosocial well-being: child and teacher perspectives.
We are inviting students in Foundation at St Joseph's to take part in a research project regarding children’s typical use of digital technology across home and school settings.
St Josephs is participating in a study of children’s digital technology use and wellbeing being undertaken by researchers from Deakin University, and the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child.
The research being conducted has a positive focus in exploring child and teacher perspectives regarding the typical experience of children with digital technology, alongside discovering what aspects of these experiences may prove most beneficial for young primary students’ well-being.
All Foundation Parents will receive further information via email directly asking for permissions for their child to be involved in the research project.
