Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
PSA Meeting - St Joseph's Fair
Last Tuesday the PSA held a community meeting to gather interest in the St Joseph’s Fair. Sixteen parents and five staff were present. The survey was responded to by 62 families all of whom were willing to support the fair. It was identified that the fair was a great community event, a good fundraiser and a vehicle for promoting our school in the wider community.
It was also identified that the fair was an enormous amount of work that was progressively falling to fewer and fewer people. The rides are a big drawcard for children of all ages. Post COVID we have been informed that we will access fewer rides for more expense. The fair requires about 380 volunteers, 80 on the Saturday and 300+ on the Sunday. The survey responses fell well short of this mark.
The PSA will consider all of this information in making their final decision next term.
Staying Safe Online
We have two important opportunities for parents and children to learn about supporting our children in the online environment.
School Workshops and Parent Night
Leading Constable John Keats is working with our Year 4- 6 students on Monday July 20th and Tuesday July 21st. He will be running a parent and child session on the evening of Tuesday 21st July. Please put this important date on your calendar.
E-Safety Webinar: Safer Online Gaming
Help your kids stay safe by learning about the benefits and risks of online gaming. This webinar run by e Safety is designed for parents and carers of young people aged 8 to 13 years of age.
It will cover:
- the games young people are using and how they are engaging with them
- the benefits of gaming and how to mitigate the risks
- practical strategies to use at home and where to find help and support if things go wrong.
Term 2 dates (Australian Eastern Standard Time)
- Friday 17 June 12.30 – 1.30 pm
- Tuesday 21 June 7.30 – 8.30 pm
There are also other webinars upcoming for parents and carers.
There is also a link to a list of safe Apps for children.
School Fees and Levies
Fee statements will be sent to all families who may have an outstanding balance. The statements are a means of letting you know your balance should you be making regular payments. They also serve as a reminder to families who have yet to make a start on their fees.
It is an expectation that all fees and levies will be addressed by the beginning of November.
Remember, as always should you wish to discuss your account or make alternate arrangements, please do not hesitate to contact Cathy at the office.
Sympathies
Our school is saddened by the sudden death of our Emmanuel College colleague Michelle Joseph. Our sympathies are with Michelle’s partner, George, their children and family, as well as her students and staff mates. Michelle’s funeral was held last Tuesday and the condolences of our community were shared.School Reports and Assessment
As we approach the end of Semester 1, our teachers are working hard to ensure they have an accurate assessment picture of their students. This assessment will inform the reports which parents will receive this Friday 17th June. Parent and teacher conversations are being held on Monday 20th And Tuesday 21st June. The report documents and the conversations go hand in hand. Parents and teachers are able to discuss the learning progress of students with examples of learning published in each child’s Assessment Folder.Bookings for parent and teacher conversations are open via PAM and we ask parents to make a booking as a matter of priority.
Girls as Leaders in STEM (GALS)
Layla Drummond, Sarah McInerney, Meg Anderson, Pippa Van Zelst, Sophie Ierodiaconou and Ruby Koch have been working over this term with students from other schools and staff from Deakin University on a STEM project. The St Joseph’s team has focussed on the health of the water, plant life and animal life of Russell’s Creek. Just a few notes for the end of Term 2 from the Library.
A big thanks to all our helpers over the last two terms. We have had wonderful families donating books to the Library - books they have bought and donated or books their families are no longer reading and are still in good condition. Thanks to our book covering helpers. It is always great to be able to get the new books out as soon as possible to our eager readers. Having people to support Maureen with this make cataloging resources so much more efficient.
Overdue notices are coming out at the end of today. If you have returned any items on the list or cannot find any books please let us know through a diary note or email. Also, if books become broken or damaged in some way just return them to school and we will fix them if possible. Accidents do happen!
New books for the Library - some from donations
Emily, Maureen and myself wish you a safe and restful holidays.
Remember - STAY WARM AND READ A BOOK!

Well done to the girls and Mr. O’Brien.

Congratulations to all in the team.

We are celebrating our first school mass for a long time on the last Friday of this term, 24th June. We will be celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This feast is an opportunity to remember in a special way the great love that God has for us and to remember those who suffer because of lack of love, lack of food, clothing or shelter. Today’s Mass gives us the opportunity to reflect on how we respond to the Gospel message of being “Good News to the Poor.”
Our school leaders will be responsible for the readings during mass and our Mini Vinnies will bring up some examples of donated goods in the offertory procession. Our choir will lead us in song.
Mass will be at 10:00am and we will bus up. Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 will bus back and weather permitting everyone else will walk back.
Sacred Heart, also called Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Roman Catholicism, the mystical-physical heart of Jesus as an object of devotion. In addition to a feast, now celebrated on the Friday of the third week after Pentecost, devotion includes acts of consecration and honour given to the image of the Sacred Heart.
Prayer
Dear God pray for each one of us, so that we get involved in life and grow weary in the service to others, especially to the poor, recognizing that, what we do for them, we do for Christ. Lord, in your Mercy. Amen
Community Donation
Our school supports our community as part of the Feast of the Sacred Heart. As well as praying for the poor, children are invited to take action by bringing to school warm blankets, toiletries e.g. toothbrush, toothpaste, handwash, hairbush, deodorant, socks, hair ties, crayons and colouring books. Children may also bring non-perishable food items.
Donations can be sent to the school with your child and/or placed in the collections tubs at school.
As Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we are asked to support those in need in our community.
This is done with donations of blankets, non perishable food, toiletries and good quaility children's clothing.
The Mini Vinnies are organising a Pyjama Day on Thursday 23rd June in recognition of our support.
Students are welcome to wear their pyjamas, Oodie or onesie (no sleeveless tops please). Slippers are suitable in the classroom but suitable shoes/runners are required in the playground. It is suggested that children bring a warm jumper or coat for recess and lunch play.
Our school is currently implementing the ReFraming Learning and Teaching Environments model. This model is being evaluated by Monash University in partnership with its provider - the MacKillop Institute. As part of this process, Monash university is inviting you to complete a survey with your Year 4-6 child(ren). It is completely anonymous and voluntary.
There are 21 questions about safety, school environment and the teaching relationships that your child(ren) experiences. Our school will receive a report based on the findings that will be distributed.
Please use the link below with your child if they fall into the Year 4-6 age range.

Under the Enrolment Tab you will also notice an Online Enrolment Form - select this and away you go. A tip with this one is do not use a phone or ipad to complete the form, any laptop or desktop computer will work fine.
You will also need to make sure you have your child's documentation (birth, immunisation, baptism certificates and any specialist reports) loaded onto your device, either by taking a photo or scanning and uploading as you will be able to upload all of that as well.
MOBILE PHONES, SMART WATCHES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES
In accordance with St Joseph's Acceptable Use and Cyber Safety Agreement, it is it is a requirement that mobile phones and personal electronic device (such as smart watches) should not be brought to school.
We understand that from time to time students may bring a device for use before or after school. If your child brings a phone or device they are required to sign them into the Library office prior to school and collected at the end of the day. These are stored in a locked cupboard.
Please remind your child of this process.
NCCD is the National Collection of data for Children with Disability. This body collects information from St Joseph's about the levels of disability funding that a child may be eligible to access in a school environment.
