PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Matthew O'Brien, Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Advent Week 1 - Hope
The major themes of Advent are longing and hope.
Whatever greater good we long for and hope for, whether it is for ourselves, our family, others or our planet it's up to us to work towards these goals.
The life of Jesus from such humble beginnings can inspire us to be receptive, to be productive, bear fruit that will benefit all whose lives we touch.
Transition and Orientation
Today children experienced their second transition day before Orientation day next Tuesday. These two preliminary transitions are designed to provide the children with an opportunity to learn more about the new level they are entering into. It also allows the children to mix up with children from different classes.
At this stage the children are not necessarily in the class or group for 2024. Our staff have used a very thorough and extensive process for placing children in their 2024 class groups taking into account all of the social, emotional, physical and academic needs of each child. Children have been invited to identify four “working buddies” that they would be comfortable to be placed with next year. We will guarantee at least one of these four. Parents were also invited to offer their input via the “green forms” .Where appropriate these requests have been met. Please understand that this process is now closed and that further requests will not be accommodated.
Orientation Day
On the morning of Tuesday 12th December the children will move to their class for 2024. Our current Year 6 children will head off to secondary school (please see communication from secondary schools for details) and our new Foundation children will arrive at 9:30am.
The children will stay with their 2024 class group and teacher until lunch time.
A BBQ sausage lunch will be provided by our Parent’s School Association along with a Zooper Dooper.
Support Services
Our school offers a range of support services to assist students in their transition. Whether it's academic support, emotional support, or other resources, we are dedicated to providing the necessary assistance to ensure a successful move to the next grade. Should you feel that your child requires extra support please contact Liz Noonan or Maryanne Evans.
Clarification
Yesterday two people entered the school grounds to take a shortcut through from Aquazone towards the Babers Lane direction. As with all trespassers we called the police who promptly did a drive by and collected details and descriptions. Extra staff were placed on duty in the afternoon.
Contrary to reports the trespassers were not chased off the grounds nor did any of our staff notice “wads of cash” or "a metal object”.
The incident occurred at the loop where they entered over the small fence at the rear shelter. This area will be reinforced by our maintenance team.
