LRC NEWS

Last week the Year Five and Six students were fortunate enough to experience an Author visit our school, Mr Scot Gardner.  Let me leave it up to the students to tell you what they thought of the opportunity.

Scot Gardner - Author Visit

On Friday 26th May, we had an author come to our school for a presentation.  His name was Scot Gardner and he talked to us about his career and how it all started.

His first book was "One Dead Seagull" and his latest book is called "Off the Map".  Scot told us to use our imagination and take our time when writing stories. He said that the publisher won’t always want to publish your book or might not like the title and want to change it, but either way, keep writing more books. In my opinion this insight has inspired me to write more stories. It also made me think more about what might tie into the story when writing it. Our Year Five classes loved having him at our school and we hope he makes more wonderful books.

Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge

We have increased the number of participants by more than double this year with 82 students registered!  They have started to login to their own online ‘Dashboard’ and we are pleased to announce that we already have 5 students who have completed the Challenge.  This is an amazing feat and each of these students have received a badge to wear with pride around our school.  All participants will receive a completion certificate for completing the challenge by September 8th, 2023.

Congratulations to:

Rex Kelly, Nina O'Kane, Maddox McDermott, India Smith, Declan McMurray and Zinzan McDermott.

The Seagull Who Soared

TheSeagull.jpg
Foundation and Grade 1 students will welcome children’s author Dave O’Neill on Thursday June 8 where Dave will read his debut kids book based on Warrnambool and the Great Ocean Road.

Dave will run sessions with each class on chasing your dreams as relentlessly as seagulls chase hot chips and the secrets to storytelling.

The Seagull Who Soares tells the tale of Stevie the seagull who lives on the beaches at Torquay and takes off on an adventure to find Stingray Bay (Warrnambool).

As a special offer for St Joseph's Primary School students - signed copies of the book can be purchased for $15 (retail $20) via the link below and given out on the day of the visit.
