PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Matthew O'Brien, Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
This Remembrance Day, join the world in honouring those who’ve served and sacrificed.
Throughout the Commonwealth and beyond, we remember all who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
Help keep their legacy alive by attending a service, reflecting in silence, wearing a poppy, or supporting our veteran community.
LEST WE FORGET.
Our school community will celebrate Remembrance Day with a video ceremony in each classroom including a minute silence, the ode and some poetry from World War One. Four of our Student Leaders will lay a wreath on behalf of our school community and the Warrnambool War Memorial during the 11am ceremony.
School Advisory Council
New members needed for 2023-2024
I encourage all parents to consider joining the School Advisory Council in 2023 and 2024.
This group provides an opportunity to be involved in the life of your child’s school through engagement in school policies, finances, teaching and learning and Catholic School Culture. If you are curious I would love to talk to you about the role.
The School Advisory Council meets once per term, usually in week 5.
Our current Chairperson is Mr Peter Furphy, our Deputy chairperson is Mrs Donna Monaghan. They are joined by Mr Chris McGrath, Mrs Melissa Happ, Mr Joel Saywell. Liz Noonan is our staff representative.
At the end of this school year 3 of these members will finish their tenure of 4 years and we are seeking expressions of interest from our parent community to fill these vacancies to commence in 2023.
If you are interested in joining the School Advisory Council please email Cathy Duynhoven on cduyn@sjwarrnambool.catholic.edu.au stating your current role and interests, and what you believe you could bring to this committee. If you have any questions and would like to discuss this first you may call either Cathy or Matt O’Brien for an informal chat first.
Mr Peter Furphy, Chairperson, SAC
I have been on the School Advisory Council since March 2018 and have been the chairperson this year.
This year two of my children are at St Joseph’s, Sophia is in Grade 3 and Maya is in Grade 6. My eldest child Will is in Year 8 at Emmanuel College. My wife Jacqui is an Osteopath and Acupuncturist at Coastal Osteopathy.
I am employed as an Area Manager of Western Victoria for Terragen Biotech, an agricultural biological company. I travel for work visiting farms to help farmers with finances and organisation. Prior to this I worked for Schulz Organic Dairy in Timboon.
I appreciate the staff at St Josephs who provide lots of support for our parents and students. St Joseph’s provides a wide range of sporting activities and academic opportunities for our students.
Outside of work I enjoy supporting the D’s in AFL, SUP boarding at the Warrnambool beach and enjoy helping out with patrol for the Surf Life Saving Club. I enjoy supporting my children’s various activities at Surf Carnivals and basketball tournaments.
Thanks to Maya Furphy, Year 6, for her contribution to her dad’s bio.
