ANNUAL SCHOOL FAIR
Special meeting to be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday 7th June, 2022.
The PSA met last week and amongst our agenda was The Annual St Joseph’s Fair for 2023. The Fair has now not run for 3 years. As a result of this, approximately half of the families that were heavily involved no longer have children at the school, and a lot of knowledge has left without the usual handover processes.
Previously, many major activities would have been locked in and deposits paid by this time for next year, so we feel a great sense of urgency. The decision on whether or not we hold a fair in 2023 really hinges on the willingness and commitment of our school community.
I am asking on behalf of the PSA that all families complete this survey that will be sent to families, even if (like me) you will not have a child at the school in 2023. The survey will ask you to RSVP for the meeting and provide valuable background information to the PSA prior to the meeting. With this we can lay out the position we are in and what will be required, rather than spending a lot of time collecting that information.
For families that have joined the school community since 2020, I'm sure many of you will have an experience or knowledge of the Fair owing to it's long proud history as a fantastic community day. The fair always was a lot of work, and as a fundraising event it held some big advantages; the PSA met or exceeded our commitments to the school early in the year. This enabled other association activities (Mothers Day, Fathers Day, disco, pizza days, second hand uniforms, canteen, etc) to run with a focus on participation and fun over fundraising. The fair also brought a lot of community members into the school, providing excellent engagement and belonging, but also allowed fundraising that was not always targeting the families of current students.
Please start thinking and get ready to share your ideas for The Annual St Joseph's Fair in the survey that comes out next week.
