Children's Day
In Japan people celebrate Children's Day on 5th May. On this public holiday the people of Japan pray that their children grow up healthy and strong.
To celebrate the day, Koi nobori is displayed. These are large carp-like kites. These carp sets include the biggest (black) Koi Nobori for father, the next in size is red representing the mother and the smallest carp is for the child. You may have seen these flying last week on our school flag poles.

Language at St Josephs PS
At St. Josephs we formally learn a Language Study as Japanese.
In an increasingly multi-cultural, multifaith and mutlilingual world, it is essential that every young person has access to quality Languages learning as a core component of their education. It is widely recognised that the study of languages is an integral part of a broad and balanced education for the learners. It offers students cultural, lingustic and intellectual advantages and the opportunity to gain important cognitive skills.
Further reasons for studying Japanese is the recognition of Asia as our closest neighbour. All the secondary colleges in Warrnambool offer Japanese as a language to be studied from Years 7 -12.
It also fosters the relationship that we have developed with our partnership school Doshisha Elementary School and the visits we have with students both in Japan and in Warrnambool.
