MATHS COMPETITION
Year 4 Maths Competition
This week we are focusing on our Year 4 students. 9 children from this level participated in the KSF Maths competition. Some of these children had participated last year, but for the rest it was a new experience. We had some amazing results with Sam Collins earning a High Distinction, Jack Kitto and Oliver Marris a Distinction and Lachlan Walters with a Credit.
The Year 3 and 4 children sit an online test consisting of 24 questions. They have an hour to complete the competition. Questions 1–10 (1–8) are 3 points each, questions 11–20 (9–16) are 4 points each and 21–30 (17–24) are 5 points each. The questions are multiple choice with 5 choices. There are no penalties for incorrect answers.
Here is an example of the kind of questions in the competition:
Susanne is 6 years old. Her sister Lisa is 2 years younger. Brother Max is 2 years older than Susanne. How old are the 3 siblings all together?
(A) 15 (B) 16 (C) 17 (D) 18 (E) 19
Felix the rabbit has 20 carrots. Every day he eats 2 of them. He has eaten the 12th carrot on a Wednesday. On which day of the week did he start eating the carrots?
