Principal’s Message

Michael Gray, Principal

Dear Parents, Carers, Staff and Students of our wider St. Joseph’s School Community,

With our students this last week we have been commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War; this reflection challenges us as we move in to the Christian season of Advent. We reflect on…

Justice for a Peaceful World

During the season of Advent Christians spend time in prayer and action as we remember Jesus’ coming as a human child in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago. It is a time of waiting … Christians wait in joyful hope for Christmas Day when we remember Jesus’ birth but we also actively prepare to welcome the Spirit of Jesus more lovingly into our hearts and lives. That is why we make a special effort to remember the poor and those in need at this time.

Far from being exclusive, Jesus calls Christians to welcome all, especially those who are marginalised in our society. In our classrooms we have carried this spirit to the local community. We have focused on learning about, as well as supporting, the Warrnambool food share effort as well as encouraged our community to support various local charities and their Christmas appeals.

In a spirit of justice and action we invite all to share the following prayer to lighten our hearts with charity over the Advent time.

Prayer

Jesus, Prince of Peace,

Give us hearts to love you more and to open our lives to others in need. Help us to make our world a better place.

Amen

Regards Michael Gray

Canteen News

Friday 14 December, 2018 – Last day for orders

Due to the end of the year stock levels in the canteen not all flavours of Zopper Doopers and Drinks may be available and children may get a different flavour.

A reminder that only one icypole/ice-cream per order is allowed.

Thanks to all our volunteers throughout the year. We are always looking for new volunteers.

Canteen Volunteers

The canteen has been established by our parents to provide a simple, regular, healthy lunch meal for families. No sweets are sold from the canteen. Each year the Canteen profits go towards our Parent School Association and at the end of each they nominate projects they would like the profits to be spent on. In the past few years the funds have gone towards purchasing new equipment for the canteen and refurbishment works.

To enable the canteen to run efficiently we rely on volunteer parents to help with the day to day heating and packing of food, supported by our Canteen Co-ordinator, Tanya Hughes.

Monday to Wednesday  - 11:00 am – 1:15 pm

Thursdays and Fridays - 10:30 am – 1:15 pm

The food is all supplied by Reeves bakery and is delivered cold for us to heat and then distribute to the classroom, sandwiches and rolls are delivered already made. The process is simple and effective.

Being a canteen volunteer is a great way to meet other parents and contribute to the school. Volunteers can choose which day of the week suits them and also how often each term they can assist.

All canteen volunteers must have a current Working With Children Check as they will be in contact with children.

Note: If you work on a rostered basis then we can accomodate changes and swaps very easily.

If you would like to assist and add your name to our volunteer roster or update your availability then please complete this form.
