Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and our wider School Community
It is close to impossible to describe our Third Term this year.
Students have been exceptional in their efforts to ensure they have achieved their best, to be their best self and to learn together. Staff have been present constantly. By this, I mean being able to be at each child to help guide, challenge, support, help, encourage, redirect and advise each and every time this has been needed. We are indeed a fortunate community where people value effort, right from wrong and are committed to learning. I also acknowledge the wonderful contribution parents and families have made to this productive and supportive school environment. Teams achieve; that's why our students are thriving; whether it is special events, the daily classroom or specific programs people come together for the reason of learning, faith and hope. Thank you everyone.
With our final week, I remind families about the free parent education opportunity provided by our parent association to hear Andrew Fuller. I encourage parents, guardians and those interested in the wellbeing of young people to come along to his parent session tonight at 7pm. As Andrew’s bio says; “Andrew puts the heart back into psychology”. As a clinical psychologist, Andrew Fuller works with many schools and communities in Australia and internationally, specialising in the wellbeing of young people and their families. This is a unique opportunity to hear Andrew’s thoughts and ideas about caring for young people. Our PSA sponsored the Resilience Project last year, Andrew will follow up on those themes this week with both staff and parents.
Finally, I wish all the students a great break. This is a time to relax, enjoy where we live, experience a more relaxed daily timetable. The last day of each Term will finish on Friday at 2:30 pm, this is also the same for all bus students.
Regards
Michael Gray, Principal

State Tee Ball Finals
Last Wednesday, the Year 5/6 Girls Tee Ball Team made the long journey to Waverley to participate in the State Tee Ball Finals. Wonderful weather and an enthusiastic team competed admirably against three very skilled teams from Bass Valley, Woodville and Toorak. Whilst they fought hard all day, unfortunately they did not win any of their matches. We are grateful for the tremendous support from all of the parents on the team who made the long trip and encouraged our team.
Table Tennis
Our table tennis teams competed last Friday at the Warrnambool Table Tennis Stadium. We had four teams consisting of Grade 5 and 6 Boys and Girls. They competed in matches against schools from Warrnambool including; OLHC, Jamieson St Primary, East Warrnambool and St Pius X. They were very competitive and won quite a few games.
The boys and girls finished in 7th place overall after all the rounds were completed.
AFL 9’s
Good luck to our year four children will be involved in an AFL 9’s tournament to be held at St Joseph’s. Thank you for all who have completed electronic permission forms. The first matches commence at 11am and we would love to see parents and friends of St Joseph’s there to cheer on the team.

St Joseph's Primary School has been invited to once again take part in Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a project of Samaritan’s Purse. It partners with local churches in developing nations to reach out to children by providing gift-filled shoeboxes and bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ. After receiving shoebox gifts, many children are also invited back to participate in The Greatest Journey – an evangelism and discipleship program.
Families are invited to fill a box with items which is then sent to a child in need. Include something from each of the 6 categories.
- Something to wear
- Something to play with
- Something for school
- Something to love
- Something special
- Something for personal hygiene
Boxes can be collected and returned to Room D4 by Friday 11 October, 2019.
There is a $10 postage fee that can be paid online.
Please do not seal the box with tape, just put a plastic band around it. All boxes are checked by the volunteer at Operation Christmas Child before they are posted off.
The PSA are conducting a Second Hand Uniform Sale for all school uniforms. If you have any good quality uniform that reflects current St. Joseph’s uniform policy and standards this day could be for you. You can either donate items to be sold to the school for sale OR price them accordingly and have a % of your sale go to the school’s PSA.
If you would like to participate you can do so by one of the following two options.-
OPTION 1- If you are donating any school uniform items for sale please bring these along to the school office. Volunteers will price all items accordingly and all sales will be donated to our schools PSA.
OPTION 2- If you have any good quality uniform that you are wanting to sell please name clearly with your family name, grade of the eldest child, size and price. All tags are to be pinned on the garment and removed when sold. It has been determined that 70% of the sale will go to the family and 30% to the PSA.
Second hand school bags are also able to be sold on the day providing that they are in appropriate working condition.
Bring donations and sale items after the holidays.
The sale will occur on Friday 18 October, 2019 from 2:00pm till 3:30pm (before and during School Assembly) in the School Hall foyer. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase good quality second hand uniforms.
