Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Feast of Assumption of Mary, 15th August
Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Feast of the Assumption of Mary Mass
This Friday you are invited to join with our students and teachers in celebrating the life and inspiration of Mary at 10:00am mass in the St Joseph’s church.
School Disco
Thanks to all of our volunteers who have donated their time to making the disco a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Ensuring that over 500 children are safely looked after and picked up is paramount and your cooperation is required:
Sign in: Please be patient in signing your children in at the hall foyer.
Sign out: Children will be picked up from the main school building (not the hall) and must be signed out so that we can safely account for them. They will be collected from year groups in the main building.

Happy Birthday to children celebrating their birthday this week.
Zac Beaton, Harrison Baker, Tom Clifford, Grace Gladki, Jack Haynes, Frankie Jones and Senani Meme.
Last week, we celebrated Wear Green for Farmers. It was a timely reminder of how tough some in our community are doing it. It is also a great opportunity to have a conversation with your child about happiness and gratitude, and how important it is to have a positive growth mindset.
The School TV topic this week is Happiness and Gratitude.
Topic: Happiness & Gratitude
Happiness is a term that captures a huge variety of positive emotions such as humour, serenity, optimism, joy, pride, inspiration, love and hope. Happiness means different things to different people and is essential to your understanding of emotional literacy. Throughout history, philosophers, religious writers and poets have pondered on the meaning of happiness and how it might be achieved. In the last few decades, scientists and psychologists have researched this further by studying a field of science called positive psychology.
The result of this research suggests there is a strong correlation between gratitude and greater happiness. Practising gratitude helps you shift your focus to positive memories or experiences, noticing the good in your life. Over time, this will rewire your brain to create new neural pathways, increase your state of happiness and overall wellbeing.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents and caregivers will learn how to achieve happiness and the benefits of practising gratitude.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV, and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school's wellbeing team for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Back in May, 34 Grade 5 and 6 students challenged themselves in The Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) Maths competition. This competition gives students the opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills through algorithmic thinking.
The CAT contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators, academics and industry experts to challenge and extend our students’ problem-solving skills. Congratulations to all the children who challenged themselves to have a go at this.

Lawn Bowls
A huge congratulations to both of our teams who competed last Friday in the Division Lawn Bowls competition. Big thanks to Jim Guinan and Casey McGillivray for assisting with training and on game day. Both teams bowled very well on the day, with St Joseph’s Blue, taking out second place and will now progress to the Regional Finals in Ballarat on Tuesday 2nd September. Well done, everyone - a fantastic effort and great sportsmanship all round!
Basketball
Thank you to all students who participated in the Year 4 basketball trials last week. We’re excited to announce that teams have now been selected – a Boys team, a Girls team, and a Mixed team.
To those who unfortunately missed out this time - bad luck, and please know that selection is always a difficult process. We simply can’t include everyone, but there will be many more opportunities in the coming years of your primary school journey. Keep working hard and enjoying your sport!
Year 6 basketball trials are continuing this week, with final team selections to be made by the end of the week.
Upcoming Competitions

WEAR GREEN FOR FARMERS DAY THANK YOU
Student Contribution
On Friday 8th August everyone dressed up in green clothes for all the FARMERS. We did this because they are struggling because they have not had much rain for the past three years. FARMERS bring us fruits, vegetables, meat, milk and more. At 12:40pm all the kids went off the oval and there were letters that spelled out FARMERS so all the year levels went in a ladder and Jeff took a photo on his drone. Some of the parents donated some money for the FARMERS.
The FARMERS are struggling a lot because they have had barely any rain. Some of the FARMERS don’t have any hay to feed their animals which is really bad because the animals could die. Victoria produces around 65% of Australia's milk supply which is crazy. FARMERS support a vast network of supply chains-transport, manufacturing, retail and export. This is why we wore green on Friday.
