This week is Book Week!!
The theme for this year’s Book Week is
Reading is my secret/super power!
Assembly is on this Friday 23rd August. This will be run by the Library Assistants and will include the final of the Bookwiz quiz.
During the week there will be the usual activities in the Library: Lego – building a Useless Object – like the one in the book.
Plus colour ins with a super hero theme and a movie. The Middles and Seniors will be trying out for Bookwiz during Lunchtime in the Library as well.
We will also be running a ‘Guess the St. Joseph's Staff Super Hero Reader’ competition. Students will guess which staff member is the face in the superhero photo! See how many YOU can guess!
Due to the dress up during Arts week we are not having an official Book week dress up but to support the School Leaders and the Special Development School there will be a ‘Wear what makes you happy’ day on the Friday 23 August with a Gold coin donation.
Many thanks for all the support,
Kath, Maureen and Lyn – Keep calm by reading!
State Football Finals
We wish the footy team playing this Wednesday all the best in Melbourne. Win, lose or draw it has been an amazing effort by the team and we hope it is a wonderful experience for all those involved.
3/4 Hooptime Basketball
A great day was had last Friday at the 3/4 Hooptime tournament at the Arc Stadium. Both teams went through all their preliminary matches undefeated and played off in the Grand Finals. Both teams were behind at half time, but fought their way back, winning their way through to the next round of competition. Please return your basketball tops this week please as some sizes may be required for the senior teams also.

As the next part of our Senior Leader's Project, we wish to raise money so the children of the new SDS school can enjoy a playground like us.
We are so lucky to have a great playground and outdoor facilities here at St. Joseph's. It makes us happy!
So we have decided to have a “Wear what makes you happy” dress-up day on Friday 23rd August. Gold coin donation.
As the name suggests, you can wear whatever makes you happy. It might be something colorful, something comfortable, a book week character, a sports theme ... whatever “makes you happy.”
In conjunction with this, to appreciate our playground as part of the fundraiser, Foundation classes will have some time with the school leaders on the playground that day.
The rest of the school will take part in the “St. Joseph’s Playground Warrior” over the next few days in their class, with the winners from each room facing off on Thursday 12th September.
Congratulations to the children who attended Mass on Sunday and have now commenced their First Eucharist preparation. Please keep these children in your prayers during the next 4 weeks.

A Family Prayer on the theme of EucharistJesus, we come before you in gratitude as family. We thank you for the gift of uniqueness of each member of our family. Nourish us so we may see the gifts you have given us and so encourage the gifts in those around us. Response: Jesus, nourish us. Jesus, we come before you in sorrow as family. We ask you to forgive the times we have hurt you and each other. Response: Jesus, forgive us. Jesus, we come before you in need as family. Assist us in our journey with each other. May each of us be a sign of your love by the way we love each other. Response: Jesus, send us your light. Jesus, we come before you as community. May the example we live out in our homes be a reflection of the love you have for us all – that we may all be one. Response: Jesus, make us one. |

Christine Thompson, Room D4
St Joseph's Primary School has been invited to once again take part in Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a project of Samaritan’s Purse. It partners with local churches in developing nations to reach out to children by providing gift-filled shoeboxes and bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ. After receiving shoebox gifts, many children are also invited back to participate in The Greatest Journey – an evangelism and discipleship program.
Families are invited to fill a box with items which is then sent to a child in need. Include something from each of the 6 categories.
- Something to wear
- Something to play with
- Something for school
- Something to love
- Something special
- Something for personal hygiene
Boxes can be collected and returned to Room D4 by Friday 11 October, 2019.
There is a $10 postage fee that can be paid online.
Please do not seal the box with tape, just put a plastic band around it. All boxes are checked by the volunteer at Operation Christmas Child before they are posted off.
7:00am - 9:00am Friday 30 August
Orders Close 3pm, Monday 26 August via CDFPay, sorry no late orders.

Please make use of the FOGO bins in the hall for any Food waste.
Thank you to all our canteen volunteers. We are in need of a few more volunteers for Term 3 and 4. Training is provided and one shift a term is all you need to commit to.
A note that our roster can cater for parents who work on a rostered basis with the ability to swap canteen shifts if necessary.
