Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Reflection
The Parable Of The Sower
I am sharing his week’s gospel with all parents and carers as we all nurture our children in “good soil”, support them in avoiding life's “thornes”, having faith that they will grow and have a positive impact on our world.
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. Such great crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: “Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Let anyone with ears listen!”
(Matt 13: 2-9)
Walk Don’t Run Campaign
You may have read articles in the local media or in this newsletter about a campaign to have a pedestrian crossing installed on Raglan Parade near the corner of Ardlie Street and to improve the safety of young people crossing the highway.
Donna Monaghan, a parent of former St Joseph’s students, has led the “Walk don’t Run” campaign. She has been engaging and leading our community to advocate for the speed limit to be reduced and a crossing installed that will directly benefit everyone, particularly school children. The Warrnambool City Council recently advised that a pedestrian crossing will be constructed, and variable speed signs aligned to school times will be installed by the Department of Transport.
On behalf of our school community I would like to thank Donna and all those who have participated in the campaign which has led to a safer environment for all.
Regards

2023 Book Week!
This year’s theme is “Read, Grow, Inspire.” Watch the following clip to give you some background knowledge of the theme and perhaps some motivation for some dress-up ideas for Friday 25th August (Week 7).
We are hoping to turn our Library into an indoor forest that week so if you have any fake flowers or indoor plants that you might be happy to loan us just for that week, or donate to our Library, please let me know how you can help!

We will be working in conjunction with our amazing ARTS team, incorporating their theme of Once Upon a Time, during the same week! More information to follow in coming weeks.

Congratulations to Noah Anderson and Hugh Wright for representing the school at State Cross Country last week.
We continue to highlight the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) curriculum so you are able to understand the topics that are covered.
We include an example of an activity for a particular year level so you can see how the topics aim to build on knowledge over time as students mature and develop their social and emotional learning. There are 8 topics in the learning materials.
News
Tickets sales now open via CDFPay, 313 tickets have already been sold.
Thanks to those who have volunteered already. We really appreciate the assistance offered by our parents.
Our Junior Disco volunteer roster is now full with 9 on the backup list. The Middle/Senior Disco is in need of a few more volunteers.
Art Installation
With Arts Week coming up later this term and our plan to create a special art installation inspired by the Japanese artist,Yayoi Kusama, we are desperately seeking dot stickers of various sizes and colours. We are also after some unwanted household items that are white or could be painted white, such as a tall lamp shade, small coffee table, a few bits of crockery or a random musical instrument.
Can you run an Art sesssion?
This year in term 3 we will once again be celebrating the arts by having “Arts Week” This year the theme for Arts Week is ‘Once upon a time . . .’
Throughout arts week students will be engaged in a range of arts activities. If you can sing, dance, paint, act, design, build, create and feel like you would like to lead a session during arts week for a class or two, we would love to hear from you (you will need to have a current Working With Children Check; if you don’t already there is still plenty of time to apply for one.
Arts week activities will run from Monday 21st - Thursday 24th August. The times may differ for different year levels depending on other school programs. This will be confirmed closer to the date.

One of the important missions of the PSA is to contribute to the sense of the school's community. To encourage as many parents who are able to attend as possible, the PSA is financially contributing to this event to allow for a subsidised package rate.
Get ready to roll with us and contribute to strengthening our school community. Some fun prizes will be on offer on the night also.
