Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Welcome back to school for Term 3. Great to see everyone back at school ready for a new term full of challenges and opportunities.
Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal
Thanks to the Mini Vinnies team and Di Brown for their promotion of the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal. Your donations raised $843 which will be used by our local St Vincent de Paul group to support families in our community.
Congratulations
At the end of last term the Warrnambool Primary Performers showcased “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” This was the culmination of months of learning lines, choreography, auditions and rehearsals. Congratulations to all of the children involved, particularly our St Joseph’s stars; Bodhi Harman, Roisin Hansford, Finn Davis, Sophie Furphy, Angus Smith, Charlie Bellman, Ella Carlin, Cara Carlin, Amelia Austin and Paddy Quinn.
Our Year Three and Year Four students went along to enjoy the show and support their friends and all the reviews that I have heard gave the show 5 stars.
I really admire the commitment, courage and skill of all students who “put themselves out there” and challenge themselves like these actors have done.
Also, in the last week of term our School Football Team headed to Ballarat to play in the Regional Finals. This was an achievement in itself as the team had already progressed through the District and Division levels. The team won all three games in the pool section to progress to the grand final which they also won. This means that they now compete at the State Finals to be held later this term at Port Melbourne. This is a terrific achievement by the team and I hope that they are proud of themselves.
I am also aware that many children participated in the dance and singing sections of the Eisteddfod during the holidays. Congratulations to everyone who “had a go” and to those who placed in their sections. Like the Primary Performers, these children are really getting out of his comfort zone and taking on challenges.
State Cross Country
Good luck to Noah Anderson, Molly McNeil, Lottie Wilkinson and Hugh Wright who all qualified to compete at the Victorian State Finals for cross country this Thursday in Yarra Valley.
Botanic Local Area Traffic Management Plan
Nicole Wood from Warrnambool City Council is planning (weather permitting) to be in the Botanic Gardens 3pm - 4pm on Thursday 20th July if anyone you would like to come and give feedback on the Botanic Local Area Traffic Management Plan.
Nicole will also set up a display at our assembly on 1st September for further consultation.
Further to Traffic Management
Please be mindful (particularly on wet days) to leave roundabouts clear whilst queuing for the loop. We have had some polite correspondence from motorists particularly in the mornings at the Bromfield/Botanic Roundabout.
Regards
Matthew O'Brien, Principal

One of the important missions of the PSA is to contribute to the sense of the school's community. To encourage as many parents who are able to attend as possible, the PSA is financially contributing to this event to allow for a subsidised package rate.
Get ready to roll with us and contribute to strengthening our school community. Some fun prizes will be on offer on the night also.
News
Tickets sales now open via CDFPay, 313 tickets have already been sold.
Thanks to those who have volunteered already. We really appreciate the assistance offered by our parents.
Our Junior Disco volunteer roster is now full with 9 on the backup list. The Middle/Senior Disco is in need of a few more volunteers.
Does your child wear a 2nd hand jumper?
These bags contain jumpers that have names from children no longer at the school. If your child wears a 2nd hand jumper and hasn't relabelled it then it may be one of these.
They will be donated at the end of week 1 next term if they haven't been collected.
Sharing of food items in the classroom
As our school community grows we have more students enrolled who have been diagnosed as having food allergies or intolerances. To support all needs we have procedures for the sharing of food items in the classroom. At times some classrooms will have a shared morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea. This is a supervised event and all families are advised of this via a letter sent from the classroom teacher.
This ensures all children's individual needs are met and catered for.
To ensure the inclusion of all students please adhere to the routine for the sharing of food items within the classroom.
Celebration of Birthdays
At St Joseph's we celebrate children's birthdays as a school by presenting the child with a Birthday Certificate at our whole school assembly. Each classroom celebrates birthdays in different ways. Some classes have a special chair for the day or a badge to wear, most classrooms have birthdays displayed in the room.
For the purpose of an individual child’s celebration or birthday we are now advising an lemonade icy pole or Zooper Dooper be a recommended option for these occasions. It is not compulsory to celebrate all birthdays through the classroom.
Icy poles can be dropped into the school office. Please label with child's name and room number and let the classroom teacher know. Average classroom numbers are Foundation (22), Year 1 (23), Year 2 (22), Year 3 (24), Year 4 (27), Year 5 (26) and Year 6 (26).
We again want to recognise and promote local fathers/father figures who are positive role models for their children, the Warrnambool and Moyne communities and to generally acknowledge the importance of fatherhood and father figures.
Prizes will again be awarded over four categories, all exclusive to Primary School years only:
- Prep to Grade 2 They draw a picture of themselves with their father/father figure.
- Grade 3 to Grade 4 They answer a question about their father/father figure & draw a picture
- Grade 5 to Grade 6 They answer two short questions about their father/father figure.
- Father Figure For step-parents, grandfathers, carers or other significant role models
Please notify the school by phone or by using the Update Contact Details in our SZApp if you have any updates to home address, contact phone numbers and email addresses. Parents are encouraged to have two alternate contacts for their child in the event that parents cannot be contacted.
Be aware that email addresses are used in several of our systems which we need to change each of these manually.
