Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Our student leaders will be laying wreaths at the Dawn Service and the 10:30 am march and service. Our school will celebrate ANZAC Day together at our assembly on Friday which will be led by the children of Room F4.
Welcome Back
I want to welcome everyone back to school for another exciting term filled with opportunities learn and grow academically, socially and emotionally. I encourage everyone to embrace all opportunities to learn, to ask questions, and to explore the world Remember that education is a journey, and the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. Enjoy Term 2.
Building Works
We took the opportunity to get some works done while the school was child-free over the holidays.
The undercover area outside B8 and B7 has been covered in a soft rubberized material to make this space more conducive to learning and playing.
The bag hook area outside D1 is being converted into a “sensory room”. This space is designed as a “chill out” space for all students but with a particular focus on those with sensory and emotional needs. The Wet area in F4 has been covered with marine grade carpet to avoid slips and the deck outside the F rooms has also been treated with a non-slip surface coating.
The tennis courts have had two gates cut into the school side of courts 4-6 and 7-9 which will allow for children to use these at playtimes.
The sign that faces Aquazone has been upgraded and the Perspex replaced.
Thanks to Cathy and Andrew for coordinating all of the tradies to be available during the holidays.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Vivienne Smedts, Sibella Evans, Ava Gleeson Templeton, Molly McNeil and Austyn McInerney, these girls won the State Junior Country Championships in Bendigo yesterday! Best in the state.
Regards

Free Individual consultations for parent support are available on Thursday 11th May - bookings essential.
Last term many of our school parents met Helen Diamond, who is a parent educator from CatholicCare, at our Parent Information evening. Helen shared her experience and knowledge of research and supportive approaches to help parents build strong relationships with their children.
Helen will be available for these FREE individual consultations either at school, or at the Warrnambool CatholicCare office, on Thursday 11th May. This will give parents an opportunity to chat one on one with Helen to explore and understand what she can recommend for your individual circumstances.
Bookings need to be made directly with Helen who can be contacted through the Warrnambool office of CatholicCare, 142 Timor Street on 5559 3000.
‘Circle of Security Parenting’
Helen shared what we can do to support children to feel ‘safe, seen and secure’. Helen was drawing on an evidence-based parenting program ‘Circle of Security Parenting’ which she is running this term. This is also a FREE program to support parents and carers of children aged 0-12.
Please see the program dates and registration details on the attached flyer.
Helen recommends a number of parenting resources which are listed below. The books have been purchased by the school and are now available for parents to borrow from the school library.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION (YEAR 3)
Year 3 children who have been baptised will have the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in Term 2.
If you desire and are ready to support your child in his/her faith please complete the Registration Form. Parents should not feel pressured to enrol their child just because they are in Year 3. The celebration of Confirmation is a celebration of faith and needs to be seen in the context of Church and not merely as part of the school curriculum, even though the faith of the child is very much supported by the school.

As Mothers Day will come around very quickly after the holidays, we have opened up the online shop (via CDFpay) for children and fathers to start placing orders for their Mothers Day gift. Each gift is $5 and students will get to personally select their own gift.
The "shop" will operate on Wednesday 10th May, which means all orders need to be placed by 9:00am on that date. As this gift purchase is optional for each family, if an order has not been placed, students will not be able to select a gift on the day; any leftover gifts will be available for purchase the following day if children would like to purchase a second gift for another important person in their life.
Mr O'Brien requires some dads to come along to school at 7pm on Monday 1st May to help him wrap the gifts for the Mother's Day Stall.
There will be plenty of jobs for all levels of wrapping skill.
Complete the form below to indicate if you can come along and help.
