Matthew O'Brien, Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
15th August - Feast of the Assumption
Ever-living God, who assumed Mary,
the Mother of your Son, into heavenly glory,
grant, we pray, that,
always attentive to the things that are above,
we may, through our lives be sharers of her glory.
Amen
100 Days of School
On Wednesday we all enjoyed a fun morning with the Foundation students celebrating their 100th day at school. The children all dressed up as if they were 100 years old and paraded around the school to the applause of the rest of the children who joined in enthusiastically. We had a huge crowd of parents and grandparents meet the children in the hall for a fashion parade and a song.
The visitors and children all headed back to the classrooms for a few fun activities. Thanks to all of our families who supported the day and to our wonderful teachers for entering into the spirit of the day with such enthusiasm. As principal I could only envy those who had to colour their hair to make it grey and draw on fake wrinkles!
Our Foundation children enjoyed celebrating 100 days at school. Room C3 are pictured with their classrom teacher Miss Dunn and school Principal, Mr Matt O'Brien.
Regards
Matthew O'Brien, Principal
Happy Birthday to children celebrating their birthday this week.
Sienna Johnson, Madison Finnigan, Daisy Greening, Jack Haynes, Frankie Jones, Maisy Lumsden, Eggy Young-Akrawi, Sienna Byron, Lexie Keane, Daisy Brown, Georgia Hope and Eli Oakley.
What does PSA stand for?
Primary School Association.
What is the role of the PSA?
It is a forum for all parents to become involved in the life of the School. It’s where we work to provide, improve and maintain the amenities available for the school students, including equipment and maintenance of School Buildings and grounds.
To provide opportunities for social meetings between parents, and promote a spirit of union and good fellowship. The PSA runs and supports several events throughout the year to raise money for the school and to support our school community.
What do we do?
- Mother’s Day Stall
- Hot Cross Bun Drive
- Father’s Day Breakfast
- Pizza Days
- Art Activities
- Canteen support
Who can attend?
Anyone and everyone. In 2022 the PSA will meet face to face with meetings held in Room C19 at the school.
How often do they meet?
Tuesday evening, Week 3 and Week 7 of each term. 8 meetings per year! Meetings commence at 7:30pm.
- Tuesday 23 August, 2022
- Tuesday 18 October, 2022
- Tuesday 15 November, 2022
- DATE TBA: Parent Committee Thank you evening
How can I help?
Come along to the meetings, contribute to the discussion, share ideas, support events that enrich the school community.
We really need our school families to support this group.
It’s only 8 meetings per year!
Hope to see you there, better still bring a friend!
Middle Hoop Time
On Thursday 11th August our middle school Hoop Time teams competed in the District competition at the Arc here in Warrnambool. Both teams played amazing games throughout the day, allowing them to move through to their respective grand finals. The boys and girls were both successful in their final, qualifying them for the next stage. Well done to our middle school Hoop Time teams!
Senior Hoop Time
The second lot of tryouts will be conducted on 16th August at St. Josephs for our Senior School Hoop Time teams, good luck to everyone trying out. The Senior Hoop Time date is scheduled for 26 August at the Arc in Warrnambool.
Volleyball Trials
Volleyball is also coming up this term, with our district competition to be held on Friday 2nd September. Tryouts for our school teams will be held on 22nd August at school.
Senior Boys Football
Our boys football team will travel via bus on Wednesday 17th August to Melbourne where they will play the State Final at Anthony Beale Reserve. Good luck to all the boys representing the school, in what is a huge achievement already.
It is Week 6 and Book Week is only 1 week away!
In the Library we are getting very busy and excited.
Remember we are celebrating Book Week from Monday 22nd August to Friday 26th August. Dress up day is on Friday 26th August. The only dress up rule is - if the character/person/creature is in a book then you can dress up like that. Thelma the Unicorn, Specky Magee, a grandma, Billy B Brown, a scientist to name a few.
Below is a couple of links that could help out.
We, in conjunction with Mini Vinnies, are running a Book Week Book sale with all proceeds going to the Mini Vinnies charities. This will be set up in the undercover area or outside the Library depending on weather conditions.
There will also be activities running in the Library and a Treasure Hunt featuring the Shortlisted books for this year’s Book of the Year awards (Children’s Book Council Australia).
From Friday 1 September, 2022, children are required to wear their hats at school whilst outside at recess, lunch and sport.
No Hat = No Play
Children without hats will have to stay in the undercover area during lunch and recess. We do NOT have a grace period, hats must be worn from the 1st September.
Hats are now back in stock at Lowes, Gateway Plaza.
As per our Sun Protection policy:
Please ensure your child has adequate sun protection during the months of September to May. You child will require the following:
a) their own sunscreen SPF 30+ or higher,

The above items are all to be labelled with their name and room number please.
Classrooms all have a supply of sunscreen available.

Two of our amazing sponsors have also donated us some umbrellas for our staff to use when out on loop and end of day pick up duties. Thank you to Brenton Morgan at the Bendigo Bank, Gerard & Leo Duynhoven at South West Roofing and Simon Rayment from Merlin.
We truly appreciate your generosity in helping us out with this request.

Many thanks Mrs Chisholm
in preparation for our Year 4 swimming program for Weeks 8 and 9 in Term 3 parents are asked to complete this form for Aquazone.
This will enable the swimming instructors to group children into groups.
Over Term 3 we are running a raffle aimed at supporting local and school connected businesses.
Thank you to families who have already sold and returned their tickets.
We are asking each family to sell 4 x $25 tickets, with there being one prize of $10,000 worth of vouchers. The winner will select their vouchers from the participating businesses outlined in the attached booklet.
If you have not sold your 4 allocated tickets, please return your sold, and unsold, tickets to the office so they can be redistributed to other families who are in the position to sell more.
The seller of the winning ticket will also have their 2023 Family fee (at least $1,375 based on the 2022 fees) credited off their school fee account.
The raffle will be drawn on September 2nd.
