Jim Guinan, Deputy Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and our Wider School Community.
Firstly, congratulations to our lawn bowlers team who became State Champions for Primary Schools last week. The competition took place at Darebin Bowls Club, Thornbury. Team members were Imahni and Safiyyah Gainey, Will Main, Will Callaghan, Nick Main, Sam Niklaus, Sam Smith, Marco Mentha, Archie Everall, Max Collins, Jack Dunphy and Oliver Kenna. What is inspiring about this group of children is that they put their hands up for an unfamiliar sport to children, trained hard, gelled together as a group and then became a successful State level Primary School bowls team. Many thanks to Parky from Warrnambool Bowls Club and his team of volunteer coaches for their time and expertise.
Enrolments
Enrolments for Foundation students at St Joseph's in 2020 are opening on Monday 3rd June and close on Friday 21st June. A campaign through radio and newspaper is about to commence with information sessions and tours if this is relevant to you. Please share this information with friends and family.
A reminder that enrolments for Emmanuel College for 2020 have closed. Enrolments for Warrnambool College have also closed and Brauer College closes this week.
Uniform
Last Friday the PSA held a very successful uniform sale as we transition into full winter uniform. Thank you to the PSA for providing this service. It is timely to remind all parents that the only coat for children to wear at school and representing the school is the St Joseph's uniform coat. Introduced this year is a system where parents receive an email if their child is consistently out of uniform. We are hoping to be consistently firmer across the uniform issue for 2019.
Assembly
An invitation is extended to all families to attend St Joseph's assembly on Fridays at 2:40pm. This is a great opportunity to celebrate, learn and be informed for all members of the St Joseph's Education community.
Congratulations to Gold Box winner Emily Benson for running with and encouraging the juniors on Sports Day.
Winners of our Gold Box get to go for a swim at the pool.
All parents are invited to attend the PSA meeting in the staffroom at school at 7:30pm this Tuesday 7th May, 2019. These meetings are a great way to hear about what is happening at the school and contribute to discussions on various school items.
Andrew McCombe, Physical Education and Sport Co-ordinator
Cross Country
The school cross country will be held this Friday 10th May 2019.
We are looking forward to this Friday’s Cross Country and the students have been busy preparing for this event during PE sessions. Below is a timetable for the day. Parents who are willing to be marshalls around the course would be greatly appreciated.
Please let the school know if you would like to help out with marshalling an event on the day. The event will take place around the school grounds. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated on the day. Each helper will be required for 8:45am - 11:00am or 11:20am - 12:30pm.

Melbourne Storm Visit on Monday
We were very lucky to get a photo with the Melbourne Storm Premiership Cup and be given a wonderful speech on wellbeing and resilience by Lenny and Amelia. A big thank you to Ben Jack from the NRL and Bernice Mather for organising this presentation and we look forward to getting them back again soon. Also thanks to Lenny and Amelia for their advice on health and wellbeing.
Aussie Footy (Grades 5 and 6)
Our first game of the Aussie Footy Program will be on Wednesday night at 4pm - 5pm.
We play Warrnambool Primary School at Warrnambool Primary School. Children must be transported to and from games by their parents, thank you.
A message from Fr John Fitzgerald
Grade 3 children who have been baptised will have the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation this term.
If you desire and are ready to support your child in his/her faith please complete the Registration Form. Parents should not feel pressured to enrol their child just because they are in Grade 3. The celebration of Confirmation is a celebration of faith and needs to be seen in the context of Church and not merely as part of the school curriculum, even though the faith of the child is very much supported by the school.
Registration is available online as well as nomination for preferred family group meeting times. Payment for the program ($25.00) materials etc can be completed via CDFpay (online ordering system).

Wednesday 8 May 2019
To celebrate Mother’s Day our PSA provides a Mother’s Day Stall. Penny Walsh from the PSA organises a wide variety of gifts ranging from Candles, Mugs, Gardening Tools, Photo Frames and novelty items. Children then attend the stall and select a gift that they know their mothers or special person will love.
On the day after the stall children can come to the school office if they wish to purchase a second gift for a grandma or special person. This is subject to availability.
Gifts are $5.00 per student. Orders open via CDFpay (online ordering system) on Monday 8th April and will remain open to just prior to the stall. The stall will be held at school during the day on Wednesday 8 May 2019.
Stickers can be dropped into the collection boxes at Central, East and Dennington or in the yellow wheelie bin in the school foyer by Monday 24th June, 2019.
Please encourage extended family members to collect stickers for our school.
