School Canteen Support
Matthew O'Brien, Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
God of the branches, God of the vine, God of the fruit that will last,
when much of the familiar is pruned away -- the work routine, the school run,
the certainty of our day – may we see what is good and true blossom in reassuring ways:
colleagues working as one, children learning together,
May these days of great opportunity bear out what is always true:
that we can reach others with the love you provide
when we remain in you.
Amen.
~ The Corrymeela Community
8th February was Safer Internet Day, 2022
This Safer Internet Day, we are calling on everyone to play it safe and fair online.
This global initiative is designed to bring families, schools, organisations and governments from 170 countries together to raise awareness about online safety.
There is no place for online abuse. We can all help to make life online enjoyable by being kind and respectful to each other.
Many primary school students play online games or use social networking apps. The following link provides parents and users with information about the more popular games and apps. It outlines the basic functions of online games, the recommended age limit (although proof of age is rarely required), safety features and possible risks.
Regards
Matthew O'Brien, Principal

We are very lucky to have a great Specialist Program at our school. These subjects include Art, Drama, Physical Education, Japanese and Learning Resource Centre (LRC)/Digital Technology. We have many teachers who are experts in their chosen subject, imparting years of knowledge and skills, professional development and sharing their passion with your children. However, you might not be as familiar with these faces in recent times, behind masks and behind the school fence! So we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce each staff member and share a little bit of information about each one. This will make it easier to put a face to the name and to help build relationships when communicating with the staff via email or in person!
Our specialist staff include Yuichi Deguchi, Cara Chisholm, Lyn Hyland, Matthew McMillan, Diane Brown, Emily Lloyd and Jo Barfus McCoy.
Introducing Yuichi Deguchi
I started teaching Japanese at Catholic Schools Network in 1996 after living in Melbourne for 2 years. St. Joseph’s Primary School was one of the six schools. I like creating new Japanese activities that might engage my students.
I have been wondering why some parents of my students recognise me even though I don’t know them.
See you in my class with lots of fun!
Welcome to the Library for 2022. It has been great to see all the students coming in to borrow in our revamped library!

100m trials have been conducted for Year 3-6 during P.E. lessons throughout Week 2, in order to select the 100m sprinters to represent the school at the District Athletics on Thursday 31st March. A number of students have been away and therefore haven’t had the opportunity to do their trial. If they wish to try out, the make-up day will be this Friday 18th March. Your child is able to wear their sports uniform on this day if they are trying out.
800m trials will take place on Tuesday 22nd February for girls and on Thursday 24th February for boys.
10 and 11 year old age groups will do their runs at recess.
The 12 year old age group will do their run at lunch.
Please note that the age that your child will be as of 31st of December 2022 is the age group they will be in. For example a current 10 year old, whose birthday is in October will compete in the 11 year old age group.
Matt McMillan, P.E Coordinator

Formal Parent Teacher Interviews are conducted twice yearly in Terms 1 and 2.
To help start the year with a clear understanding of student needs at St. Joseph’s we conduct 10 minute parent teacher interviews with all parents and guardians starting next week. The first Parent Teacher interviews allow parents to formally meet their child’s classroom teacher, discuss their child’s needs and to allow the teacher to gain information pertinent to the student having a successful year of learning.
Bookings, once open, are made via PAM which allows parents to alter and cancel their own bookings.
Allow 10 minutes between appointments to ensure you get the full 10 minutes with your child/ren's teacher.
The second Parent Teacher interviews are late in Term 2 to allow the parents and teachers to discuss students’ mid year formal written reports.
St Joseph's Primary School is in the process of including a 'Loose Parts Play' area in the junior school playground. We are wondering if there would be anyone interested in helping to build a storage box suitable to store equipment for the play area. Materials will be provided by the school.
The wooden storage box would be 12m in length with 4m divides, 1 m wide and 90cm high. The lid would need to be segmented with hinges.
Please contact the office if you are able to assist with the construction.
