Matthew O'Brien, Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Gracious and loving God,
Give wisdom and strength to all those in our community and
around the world, who are responding to the coronavirus – health
professionals, government officials, aged care providers, school leaders.
May those in our community who are feeling anxious,
find peace and reassurance.
May our schools be places of compassion,
attentive to those who are
impacted by the coronavirus.
May we be communities of empathy,
love and care, in all we face.
Through Christ, our Lord, Amen
Again we find ourselves in remote learning. I am thinking of all of you who are supporting your children through this event. Particularly those who are most vulnerable and those whose businesses and incomes are affected.
As always I am grateful for the caring, professionalism of our staff and the flexibility of our parent community.
Attached is an outline of some procedures that may support you and your family during this remote learning session. This document will be housed under the 2021 Term 3 Support - Helpful Links.

Regional Cross Country Finals
Cross country running typically involves unpleasant winter conditions, but competitors at the Greater Western Region Championships at Deakin University faced an extremely tough course. The students had earlier qualified by competing at the Reid Oval and Deakin University. They had to continue training until the event was rescheduled, on what became the last day of school before the current lockdown.
Despite the course being modified due to the muddy state of the Deakin oval and surrounds, pools of water quickly transformed to mud, making it more testing for the runners. Everyone tried their hardest, achieving pleasing results considering the best 50 runners from the region competed in each race. Tahlia Vesey 7th and Michael Lougheed 10th, competing in the 12 year old events qualified for the State Cross Country Championships.
Division Winter Sports Finals
Unfortunately, due to today’s current Lockdown situation in Victoria we cannot participate in the scheduled Division Winter Sports today. When I receive updated information about new dates via the School Sports Victoria website i will notify you. If we return to school this week there will be a training session scheduled for our Netball, Football and Tee-Ball teams hopefully on Thursday!
Year 5/6 Girls Footy Training
Training for Girls Footy will resume this Wednesday at lunchtime. (If the lockdown is not extended!) The team selection will be posted on the Sports Noticeboard after this training session. As far as we know, the current date for this competition remains on Thursday 29th July.
Year 5/6 Division Hockey
Unfortunately, our two teams were unable to compete in their Division Hockey Competition last Friday. Hopefully we are able to just postpone this event to a later date. Again, I will endeavour to keep everyone updated on our St. Joes’ Sports Shed Google Classroom Page!
Basketball Clinics & Hooptime Years 3/4 & 5/6
Fingers crossed the scheduled Hoop-Time competitions will still take place in August! Please ensure you have filled in the attached Registration form by 3pm Friday 23rd July if your child wishes to be eligible for the shortlist trials taking place in Week 3 with Mike McGorm.
Regards,
Mrs Emily Lloyd (Physical Education & Sport Co-ordinator)
Mr Matthew McMillan.
