Michael Gray, Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and the wider St. Joseph’s Primary School Community,
Our Term is fast coming to a conclusion! Several important events will be part of this time. This includes the sacrament of reconciliation for our senior school students who enrolled in the parish program. Of course we have our St. Joseph Community Day and Colour Fun Run and Principal Farewell Assembly on Friday and next week we have our Junior School Sports Day. The young students have been learning the skills of athletics in their PE program and are looking forward to the sports day on Thursday 31st March. Full program details to follow, including parents on-site opportunity as part of our Covid recovery safety plan.
The full arrangements for the colour fun run are in a separate newsletter; the day will include a morning Liturgy and as a chance for the students and families to farewell me as Principal. A few invited guests will join us for the celebration which will include a school liturgy.
Finally, last Friday 21 students, after qualifying from Division Swimming, headed off to Horsham to compete in the pool against schools from across the Sport Victoria Western District swim competition. A great day, although very long. I do appreciate the staff, families and students' cooperation with this long day.
Holy Week
Fr. John Fitzgerald (St Joseph’s School Parish Priest) invites all in our community to engage with the Easter liturgical season. The liturgies/prayers and mass opportunities are all outlined below.
Passion (Palm) Sunday begins Holy Week, Sunday 28th March.
The palms symbolise Christ’s triumph, while the cross is the symbol by which his triumph is achieved.
Mass of Holy Oils at 6:30pm (St Patrick’s Cathedral Ballarat) Monday 29th March.
This Mass has special significance for those who will use the Blessed Oils in 2021; the sick, those to be baptised and confirmed, the ordained.
Communal Celebration of God’s Mercy and Forgiveness at 7:30pm, Tuesday 30th March, Parishioners and visitors are invited: to hear the Word of God, to examine our conscience, to repent of our sins and to seek forgiveness of Almighty God.
The Easter Triduum: The Easter Story
Holy Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s Supper (7:00pm), Thursday 1st April.
Good Friday: Celebration of the Lord’s Passion (3:00pm), Friday 2nd April.
Easter Vigil: 6:00pm (The Vigil begins with the Easter Fire), Saturday 3rd April.
Easter Sunday: 8:30am & 10:00am, Sunday 4th April. (NB: No 6:00pm Mass)

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION (YEAR 3)
Registration closes: 3:00pm, Friday 23rd April, 2021
Note: The parent meeting scheduled for 7pm on Tuesday 27th April, 2021 is now a Student and Parent meeting and will still be held at St Joseph's church.
A message from Fr John Fitzgerald
Year 3 children who have been baptised will have the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in Term 2.
If you desire and are ready to support your child in his/her faith please complete the Registration Form. Parents should not feel pressured to enrol their child just because they are in Year 3. The celebration of Confirmation is a celebration of faith and needs to be seen in the context of Church and not merely as part of the school curriculum, even though the faith of the child is very much supported by the school.
Year 4 children who did not register in 2020 may choose to register and participate this year with the Year 3 children.
Registration is available online as well as nomination for preferred family group meeting times. Payment for the program ($25.00) materials etc can be completed via CDFpay (online ordering system).

Andrew Chinn will be visiting our school on Friday 30th May. Andrew has sent this link to a school prayer for St Joseph, words by Amanda Svanetti. St Joseph Feast Day was Friday 19th March.
Last week, Mrs. Lancaster from St. Joseph’s Parish in Warrnambool, came and worked with the Year 5 students to make palm crosses for the Palm Sunday Masses which are celebrated this coming weekend. In this way, the children were able to make great connections in recognising the partnership between the school and the parish.
Junior School Sports
The Junior School have been busy running and jumping and getting prepared for the upcoming Junior School Sports to be held on Thursday 1st April to finish off a wonderful first term. A big thank you to those who have offered to help, it’s great to have parents involved in the day. It’s not too late to help out and we would love to see families come along to join us on the day.
Swimming
We’re off to the state finals! We had a successful day in Horsham with many swimmers qualifying for the next round of swimming in Melbourne. A big congratulations to the 12/13 girls Freestyle relay consisting of Charlie Bowman, Isla Dixon, Addison Conheady and Niamh Ginley, who took home gold! We also had the girls 11 year old Freestyle relay as well as the boys and girls 9-13 Medley relay take home 3rd! An outstanding effort from the girls 10 year old Freestyle relay who waited until the very end to complete their race, you were brilliant!
A big thanks to Andrew for driving the bus, to Georgia and Matthew for organising the team and to all the parents who attended and helped to support all of the swimmers, we couldn’t do it without you!
District Athletics
After the recent School Sports, Physical Education classes and lunchtime trials we have been able to select our team to represent St Joseph’s at the upcoming District Athletics Carnival on Monday 29th March. Congratulations to the following students who have qualified in 2021.
There will be an optional training session for all District Athletes this Wednesday 24th March from 3:30pm - 4:30pm on the Allen Oval. Parents can collect their children from the Loop from 4:15pm. For those students who cannot attend on Wednesday, there will be an opportunity to practice for relays and individual events at lunchtime on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Children can wear their sports gear on these days.
